Amy Purdy has had to overcome many obstacles to be the woman she is today. Fifteen years ago, she lost both legs to a disease, yet she managed to overcome this disability to become an Olympic Champion, and a finalist on "Dancing with the Stars". Watch this video and answer the following questions: What was your reaction to Amy's story and dance? How can Amy's story be a source of inspiration to people? Who do you know that had overcome obstacles in life, and is a source of inspiration to you? PLEASE explain all your answers!
For years, people have debated whether cheerleading should be considered a sport. Watch the following video to see an example of a cheerleading routine. According to the dictionary, a sport is defined as "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment." Keeping this in mind, would you consider cheerleading to be a sport? Give three reasons for your answer, and make sure to explain each one.
Why is it important to know what ingredients are in what you are eating? Grab your favorite snack that is in your refrigerator or cupboard right now, and list the ingredients that are found in this snack. What can you do to make sure that you eat healthier foods? If you were to make your favorite healthy meal, what would it be?
Write a letter to Team USA congratulating them on their accomplishments at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. You may direct it to a specific Olympian, or make your letter to all of them (Team USA). Your letter should include at least one reference to a specific event, something you learned from watching the Winter Olympics on TV (or through this video), and a reference to your experience in our Hockey Challenge.
Many of you asked what it would feel like to be in a bobsled competition during the Olympics. Here is a video that shows what it would look like. Watch the video and choose three words that would describe your experience on this run. Make sure to give a reason why you chose each of the three words you used. I want you to learn how to do a sit-up. Watch the video, and then try doing ten at home every day for one week. Afterwards, answer the following questions using complete sentences. Which of these dances would be the easiest to learn? Why? Which one would be the hardest to learn? Why? If you had to choose, which of these routines would you want to learn? Why?
